Noah’s Ark

This window was commissioned to celebrate and signpost a room of sanctuary at Winford Primary School in Somerset. By using white opaque glass and a shape that spans the height of the window, the design emphasises the dove which brings hope.

The rainbow is a prominent feature, and the number of black lead lines separating the colours is minimised by fusing sections of two colours onto clear glass before leading up.

The window shows the turbulent sea on the left becoming calm on the right hand side, the rolling dark purples and greys subsiding into horizontal turquoises and greens, lit by the rays of the sun.

The ark is positioned centrally, and is small to suggest a background presence. It is painted with traditional glass paint which is then fired in a kiln.

Textured glass, particularly rippled water glass, was used to give privacy to the activities taking place in the sanctuary room.
